Just Another Day in Paradise: Why I Choose the Phrase

When someone asks, "How ya goin’?", my default is almost always a smile and the same five words: "Just another day in paradise."

I get a few looks for it. Sometimes it's taken as a joke; other times, people think I’m just being overly optimistic. But for me, it’s a deliberate choice rooted in how I view mental resilience.

The Wonka Wisdom

I’ve always been struck by the lyrics to Pure Imagination from the original Willy Wonka film. There’s a specific line that serves as a cornerstone for my worldview:

"If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it."

This isn't about ignoring reality or "toxic positivity." It’s about the power of perspective. It suggests that "paradise" isn't a destination you arrive at once your life is perfect; it’s a state of mind you cultivate by actively choosing where to point your attention.

Paradise as a Practice

There are days when that phrase comes out with a heavy side of sarcasm because things aren't going smoothly. But even in those moments, saying it performs a function. It serves as a structural "ritual" to remind me of two things:

Agency: I have the power to create my own reality through my imagination and mindset.

Presence: Resilience is built by finding the "paradise" in the present moment, even when it’s buried under a stressful schedule or an injury.

The Bottom Line

At Fit Bodies, Resilient Minds, I talk a lot about building lifelong strength. That isn't just about what you can lift in the gym; it’s about the frameworks you use to navigate the world.

Choosing to see the "paradise" around you is a skill. Like any muscle, it requires repetition. So, I’ll keep saying it, not because I’ve mastered life, but because I’m actively living into the alignment I want to embody.

Next time you see me, ask how I am. You already know the answer.
